"THREE GREAT SPEECHES"

A catch up meeting of Napier Toastmasters was held on Monday 2nd May due to the long weekends during April (Easter & Anzac) so this month we are meeting three times, rather than the normal two. The standard set by the members was very high right throughout and there was a good attendance considering the extra meeting night.

Toastmaster of the night Steve, quickly got the meeting underway explaining what was about to happen with the assistance of the General Evaluator (Graeme) and Timekeeper (Andy) and himself as the Grammarian, in which he challenged the members to use idioms like "a bull in a china shop" or 'It's raining cats and dogs". Something different from the usual 'word of the night' but well thought out and quite enlightening during the evening.

Table Topics (an impromptu speaking exercise) was next and seven members were able to participate answering question/situations set by the TT Master Tony. They were excellent situations set by Tony and everyone answered well. The first prepared speech of the night was presented by Ros, introduced by Song. As usual Ros gave an excellent 7 minute speech, which was her final speech on Level 3 of her selected Pathway. It certainly gave us all something to think about and Ros's experienced showed.Next up was Greg, introduced by Ian, with a very thought provoking presentation which involved a number of excellent quotes, well utilised in his speech to make his point. As General Evaluator I am amazed by his presentations always well worth listening to and this one was no exception.Ian (doubling up from being an Evaluator) was the next prepared speaker, introduced by Craig. His speech was entitled "The New Aerobics" and apparently (according to Ian) that is cycling. Ian had just returned from a cycling trip to the South Island where they cycled five different tracks in 7 days and his usual humorous  speaking style came through with a highly entertaining presentation.Table Topics was evaluated by Joyleen, who handled the task splendidly with a very thorough summary of each speaker including many commendations and some recommendations for each. I believe the speakers really appreciated her efforts. The speeches were evaluated by the introducers mentioned above. Song a newer member did an excellent job in her evaluation of Ros's presentation and she is coming along rapidly in her speaking and evaluations. Ian mentioned to Greg in his evaluation that perhaps he utilised too many quotes and may have been better to concentrate on a couple of quotes. Ian is an experienced member and gave Greg a very thorough evaluation which he will benefit by. Craig evaluated Ian with a thought provoking and knowledgeable evaluation with many commendations and a couple of suggested improvements. In the General Business session, members were reminded of the District 112 Conference on Zoom this weekend where we are represented by Ros in the Table Topics Contest (Saturday 11.30am) and Jan who is running one of the five Education sessions available (Saturday 9.15am and again on Sunday @ 9.25am). Register and tune in to support our members from Napier. Do not forget the Election of Club officers at our next meeting - the Club needs you to run successfully.General Evaluator Graeme, assisted by the Grammarian and Timekeeper rounded out the evening with comments for the Toastmaster and the Evaluators, so going home everyone who spoke had some feedback to work on if they wished.Best Speaker; Ian                   Best Evaluator; Joyleen
Best Table Topics; Song         Best Contribution; Ian.NEXT MEETING; MONDAY 9th May 7.00pm Toastmaster; Ros.
