You Go Girl!

A typical warm welcome from Toastmaster Ian kicked off a full and entertaining evening and before we knew it – Table Topics had started!

Craig, being the grammarian for the evening, challenged the audience to use the word transmutation or its derivative thereof. As the Table Topics Master as well, Craig had a juicy list of common adages which were dropped upon unsuspecting (and a few wise, all-knowing) members to talk about for 1½ minutes. Ranging from ‘more haste, less speed’ to ‘managers rise to the level of their incompetence’, everyone handled their topics well.

Lee - Talking about what went wrong at his 21st birthday party
Emma - Talking about stealing cookies!

Rob and Graeme gave excellent evaluations of the presentations, acknowledging the difficulty in some cases, use of humour and making some very helpful suggestions to speakers. This was Rob's first time fulfilling the role as an evaluator and has aptly delivered.

Speaker one for the evening was Emma, introduced by Sarah, this assignment being "vocal variety". Sarah's introduction technique was well worth hearing as she demonstrated  how to skilfully build the speaker to the audience and generate interest in the topic. A quality presentation followed and a model evaluation from Sarah. She acknowledged the successful completion of the project and used excerpts from the speech to demonstrate her points. Good helpful recommendations and well summarised.

James introduced Daniel and his speech topic – about a little known marine mammal - the Narwhal. A fascinating and entertaining delivery educated the audience and James was able to provide useful recommendations and re-cap so that all the group could benefit from understanding the reasons this speech went well and how a few recommended additions could enhance it even further.

The final speech of the evening was delivered by Jane, introduced and evaluated by Amy. ‘Get to the point’ was the assignment and "You Go Girl" featured strongly throughout with solid audience participation! Having heard Jane before, we were not surprised by her energy of delivery, passion for the topic, humour and ability to engage with the audience. All very strong features. Amy in turn handled the challenge of evaluating such a good presentation , very well by noting all the features that worked so well but also providing three good recommendations for the speaker.

Jane - On fire with her speech
A nice crisp business session and induction of a new members (Lee) and an award for Emma concluded the meeting nicely.

Induction of Lee as a new member
Emma - Halfway through her CC manual!
