What a tremendously interesting night!

With 17 members present and James as the Toastmaster we were set for a good meeting which started precisely at 7:00 pm. Following his warm welcome and efficient leadership skills, the introductions and opening along with the Mission Statement he certainly set a positive tone for all.

James - Toastmaster of the evening

With Delan as Grammarian and his "Peculiar" word of the night and Craig acting as Timekeeper we were in good hands.

A most interesting Table Topics Session was presented by Rob with a mechanical problems theme, all the participants enjoyed and talked well to their given topic, including Peter who put a most interesting slant on it all with his four wheel trolley with spoke wheels and no brakes. This session was evaluated by Christine and Steve who worked very well together and gave excellent feedback using CRC in a very positive manner leaving all participants feeling quite positive with their interesting contributions.

There were two well prepared speeches this evening the first by Jane and the second by Layeequila.

Jane with "It's air travel that does it to me", was a perfect kleptomaniac right from the possibility of pen pilfering and an abundance of labels with wonderful humour and a seeming lack of nerves following through with her "benign bandit brain" displaying an abundance of souvenirs. A well prepared, well organized and well presented speech using gestures word pictures, humour and drama.

Jane - It's air travel that does it to me

Jane was well introduced and evaluated by Peter, as an experienced evaluator he gave a text book evaluation which I think would have been encouraging for Jane with good recommendations to consider.

Layeequila was loquacious in his "Jack of all trades and Master of none" presentation, revealing his many talents as a jack of all, a master of a few and his ability to develop his talents sufficiently to impress and accomplish, which not only informed us but also entertained us with a good use of humour and gestures.

Layeeq - Presenting his ice breaker speech

Layeequila was introduced to his audience by Amy in a very friendly and relaxed manner her evaluation was very practical and positive, 2.5 recommendations sounded unusual and turned out to be a ploy to lend emphasis to the first, to slow down, the second to use rhetorical questions. I thought they were quite perceptive.

Ian's Bard “The terribly, tragically sad man” by Loren Seibold was certainly ‘food for thought’ as they say, an insight into how we need to stop and reflect on how well of we really are, that we need to appreciate what we have in our lives.

This was followed up with an efficiently run business session which included the election of incoming officers for 2017 – 2018, a change of venue for a short time and our forward programme obligations. This was then followed by Heather and Layeeq were also inducted as members of Napier Toastmasters Club.

Layeeq and Heather - Inducted!

  • President - Craig
  • Vice President Education - Steve
  • Vice President Membership - Jane
  • Vice President Public Relations - Could it be you?
  • Secretary - Ian
  • Treasurer - Christine
  • Sergeant-at-Arms - Graeme

  1. Great review. Another fascinating meeting. The variety of experiences our members divulge during their speeches is amazing. It keeps bringing me back and you always learn little tips and tricks from the Toastmaster when the programme has to be changed at the last minute or during the meeting itself. Mental flexibility is a great tool to have!

  2. Excellent meeting report following another great meeting. Wonderful to have another two new members inducted and while never 'weak' the Club is now going from strength to strength. Well done everyone. To have two contestants at District level demonstrates our strength!
