It was another entertaining and informative meeting on Monday night. Congratulations to Amy who was officially welcomed as our newest member. Great to have you part of the Club.
Steve Tutbury was our capable Toastmaster for the evening, who kept proceedings efficient and flowing well.
Sarah Hall explained her role as General Evaluator and introduced her team. Peter was Grammarian for the night and was out to “DISSUADE” speakers from using unnecessary double descriptive words. Christine was the master of the lights and stop watch and did a fantastic job of keeping the meeting to time.
Bryce introduced Table Topics which had the challenging theme where by the speakers were Judges who were to pass sentence on a crime.
Judges for the night were:
Peter who searched for just who to sentence for “Crimes Against Fashion:Chris, not being a sports fan, was perfectly placed to sentence anyone for “Breaking the hearts of NZ Sports Fans”
James K found Steve guilty of “impersonating a hero” and sentenced him to being the Wallibies Coach.
Amy sentenced her son to 5 years at music school for the “Crime of murdering music”.
Craig found Peter guilty of “Crimes against NZ’s beautiful environment” and gave him a life sentence to work at improving the environment of this country.
Danny who found the designers of the Titanic guilty of “False Misrepresentation” with a sentence of life imprisonment in antarctic.
Our final judge, Steve, was sentencing the crime of “guilty of stating the obvious” for which he found parents guilty.
Graeme was commendable in his solo evaluation of all those Table Topic speakers, showing just what a master of observation, listening and critiquing he is.
Four formal speeches followed.
Sheryl spoke on a killer loose in the country which is progressively spreading and decimating our largest export earner – the kiwifruit industry.
Ian gave a relaxed, well paced speech, in which he assumed the role of a guest speaker at an end of year boys school assembly. His speech incorporated a touch of humor here and there as it delivered an A, B C lesson. A=Attitude determines Altitude, B= Be yourself, C=Communication.
The third speaker was James Ward who engaged the audience with his descriptive language on “Just another Day” that turned out to be a day that changed his life and was to present him with many physical and mental challenges to overcome.
Our final speaker was Joost Persoon who showed “There is more to it than meets the eye” by speaking passionately about the size and wonders of the universe. Joost demonstrated with conviction just how this topic had captured his imagination.
All speeches were exceptionally well evaluated by Danny, Craig, Chris and James K respectively. Constructive comments and examples were given on how to add strength and impact to speeches through body language and the delivery of good opening and closing lines of a speech.
President Craig gave an informative business Session.
- Thanks was given to Ian for the new award certificates he had printed- An inter-club visit has been organised by Craig to the Hastings Toastmaster Club. Volunteers called for
to give a Speech, do an evaluation and be GE.
