Greetings Toastmasters and Guests
Welcome to new guest Daryl, and also to our returning
guests Jon, Amy, and Netta. It was so good
to have you all along and getting involved with the meeting.
Enthusiastic Sarah led the night as Toastmaster chair and
did a fantastic job of keeping the meeting on track.
Bryce read the Mission Statement followed by Graeme explaining
his role as General Evaluator and introducing his able team. James gave a traffic light based
demonstration of the lights and time keeper’s role while Sheryl set the scene
for the meeting with an “Authentic” word of the night. Graeme provided a very succinct General
Evaluation at the conclusion of the meeting, covering the salient points well.
An innovative inter-active Table Topics session was
run by Joost. Speakers were put on the
spot to tell a story – either true or not true, with the audience guessing at
the end, if in fact it was true or not.
First Table Topic speaker was Graeme who was at the
races betting on a certainty. Amy gave
us a run down on some difficulties she faces as a Marriage Celebrant over some
clients’ names. This was followed by Ian
who gave us some humorous aspects of Catholicism. Most of us petrol heads will agree that Steve
got the best Xmas pressie ever and was off to the super cars to do “donuts and
wheelies”. Jon describes a visit to Dawson city and how the
streets there were paved with Gold.
Netta described her dread at having to collect a “big bag of pulsating
pink stuff” from the freezing works for dissection use at school.
There must be something very honest about toastmasters
as everyone told true stories!
Well done to our three guests for their participation
and congratulations to our guest Netta for winning table topics.
The Table Topic Evaluation duo of Ian and Bryce
complimented each other extremely well and gave great feedback and
recommendations by using the CRC method.
Lots of timely reminders in there on using enthusiasm and body language
to make impact on those short speeches, as well as maintaining eye contact and
to avoid that habit a lot of us have of hand wrenching.
The first of our formal speeches was Sarah Lee who was well organised in describing the “emotional
roller coaster of change” her and her family went through in moving to Hawkes Bay .
Next was James Kan
who gave us insight through his thoroughly researched speech on the life of an
i-phone worker. A very thought provoking
speech.
The third speaker was Danny
Mills presenting a very powerful and dramatic reading of “Death
Lamenting” which really captured the audience’s attention.
Fourth and final speaker was Craig Robinson with his
speech on “ANER” which was really about “RENA” and the enormous impact and
change to life this has had for those who reside on Motiti Island .
Great observations and insights were delivered by the
speech evaluators being David, Paul, Peter and Steve respectively. These included a good range of commendations,
as well as helpful recommendations for each speaker to take on board for their
next projects.
Craig ran an efficient business session as always, which
included:
-
Feedback from Division D contests held in
Rotorua. Laurence Bacchus from Hastings
Club won the Humorous contest and Sue Ward from Bay City Club came 2nd
in the Table Topic Contest. Well done to
our two representatives from the Bay doing so well.
-
Trophy for the Club’s Humorous Speaker of the year had
arrived and was presented to Graeme
-
Invite to attend Hastings Club meeting on 15th
of November. Craig needs some volunteers to do some roles there that night.
-
A number of Napier Club members attended Hastings Club
40th Anniversary Dinner.
-
Craig updated us on an email from Emily Murray on how she was getting on back in the
States.
Christine showed her passion and commitment for Toastmasters in her educational session enlightening us on the educational pathways that Toastmasters has to offer.
And the Awards for the night went to………..…
