Daylight Saving at Last

With daylight saving upon us it was a nice change to have our meeting on Monday 10th begin with the last vestiges of sunshine still in the air.

Our Toastmaster for the evening was Jan and she delivered a well-organised meeting. Sgt-at-arms Graeme started things off punctually at 7pm and as always added his unique touch to this meeting.  Jan ran a well-organised meeting and after explaining the agenda we were given the word-of-the-evening by our grammarian Ian. The word Ian chose was 'charisma'.

Thereafter we were treated to our first speaker Song, who was introduced by Joyleen. Song's speech was about the value of adding some simple balance exercise to our daily routine. It was an interactive presentation that got the audience involved - with 3 members somehow persuaded to try balancing on one leg with their eyes closed - harder than it sounds!

Our next prepared speech was delivered by Ian, and introduced by Steve. Ian regaled us with a humourous description of his recent misadventures with the medical profession. This speech was quite different as Ian was seated throughout.

Next up we enjoyed an entertaining Table Topics session presented by Craig. Table Topics involves audience members practicing their impromptu speaking by talking about a seemingly random topic. Six members were each given a topic in turn and each did their best to speak confidently about something they may not actually know anything about!

After a supper break we were treated to a third prepared speech which was delivered by Andy and introduced by Ros. Andy gave a well-presented and thought provoking talk about the concept of reciprocity and the ethics surrounding it.

Following this our Area Director Jacqui gave a short talk, that included our Triple Crown successes, as well as a presentation of the Division R Table Topic Contest trophy to Roslynn. See picture below.

We concluded the evening with the speech evaluations and awards presented.

Best Table Topic : Roslynn   Best Evaluation :   Roslynn
Best Speaker : Andy             Best Contribution : Roslynn
