Poetry in Motion

Greetings to all fellow toastmasters, friends and guests, As we gathered again to do our communicative best. With Ian at the helm as our official Toastmaster, We all knew we were not heading towards any disaster. Clearly and effectively, he outlined the format for the evening, And welcomed former Area R3 guest Marc who was also attending. Along with club members we were ready to start, Three speeches and Table Topics, we were all playing a part. First up our Timekeeper Mondie, whose job to keep us in line, Showed us green, orange red lights or else there was a fine. Informing us he would give us the cue with the ring of the bell, If we were under time, on time, or heavens forbid – he would certainly tell! Our Grammarian Graeme presented the word of the day, Which he had selected with relevance and care considering the worlds current foray. For the want of something fun, splendid and majestic, He chose the next closest words of “Fabulous” and “Fantastic”. Denise introducing and evaluating speaker number one, With excellent articulation, we knew we were in for some fun. Clearly and concisely objectives outlined and forthwith achieved, The stage was all set for our first speaker to proceed. “Misconceptions on Observations”” by our newer member Andy, Wow what a fabulous title - we will always remember! His thoughtful analysis on optical illusions had us in a trance, We were certainly given a real treat as he held us in his glance. Tony introducing and evaluating speaker number two, With assured confidence we could only dream to pursue. The focus and purpose of the speech he proceeded to tell, Yes, we were all, well under his spell. With purpose and intent Greg came to the front of the room His speech titled “Who am I, Who are you?” was about to ensue. He certainly did not disappoint with celebrity name dropping and handouts galore, He rendered a thought-provoking presentation which had us all enthralled. But wait there was more for the evening to come, As Song stepped forward for Table Topics had begun. This being her first time as Table Topics Master with interesting questions posed, Tony, Marc, Graeme, and Mondie had one and a half minutes to disclose. Just before supper break our special guest Marc took the stage, With a special presentation that had been prearranged. A trophy was presented to Jan our pod-casting maestro extraordinaire, For her contribution at conference where she workshopped and showed her artistic flair. After supper it was time for Craig to step to the front, To introduce our key note speaker Jan with her 20 minute account. “Two of my Favourite Things” the title of her speech she had prepared. And from there a journey she took us on, that she wished to share. On with the business session, there was lots to get through, From 50th Anniversary and Annual Awards dinners just to name a few. Upcoming competitions and certificate presentations were announced, I know all of us were ready to pounce! Taking turns to evaluate the three prepared speeches of the night, Denise, Tony and Greg gave us excellent Evaluations and “Fantastic”, “Fabulous” insights. Joyleen evaluated Table Topics thoughtfully provoked questions, With her enthusiastic CRC thoughts and helpful suggestions. Finally the evening was drawn to a close without further accord, By our Toastmaster Ian after the giving out of the awards. Best speaker to Song, for Tony Best Evaluator, And for Jan’s’ key note speech, our best contributor. An enjoyable and entertaining evening I am sure you will agree, Our next Toastmasters meeting will be August 22nd. A competition night of Humorous Speeches and Table Topics. It will be …using the words for evening “Fabulously Fantastic”!
