A wonderful, tree saving meeting!

Meeting report, Napier Toastmasters Club: 9 March 2020

Greetings Fellow Toastmasters!
What a wonderful meeting Ashley ran for us on the 9th March! A few little changes as Ashley attempted to save the trees by going paperless (he wanted to ensure there was enough resources in the world to make the additional toilet paper we are all needing at the moment!).

Joylene gave 7 lucky Toastmasters a chance to work on their impromptu speaking skills in a challenging and thought-provoking Table topics session. Everyone did really well with these big themes but Ashley took home the prize of best Table Topic Speaker of the night by cheekily going ‘a little controversial’.

We had 2 impressive prepared speeches tonight by Jane and Steve – as always we appreciate the effort that goes into preparing a 5-7 minute speech for the meetings.

Jane wowed us with her ability to demonstrate different communication styles whilst on the phone and Steve scared us all into throwing some extra savings into our kiwi savers for fear of being poor, starving and miserable come 65 years of age! Thanks for the push Steve I’m off to the bank now…. (can I sell your best speaker trophy and put the funds in my kiwi saver?)

We had some very impressive evaluations during the course of the night.
Craig as always gave great feedback and recommendations – luckily for me he ran over time so that I could provide a recommendation of my own. Craig is always someone that adds value to everyone in the club through his evaluations.

Roz also demonstrated why she is fast becoming one of the clubs great evaluators too. Her ability to really engage with the audience whilst delivering her evaluations is a skill that I personally hope I can learn from.

Brenda did the work of 2 men (as always) evaluating all of our table topic speakers. Not only this but she would have added great value to each speaker with well thought through commendations and recommendations – a well deserved winner of Best Evaluator of the Night – Well done Brenda!

A big shout out to the lovely Nigel tonight who stepped in at the last second to be the Grammarian of the night and also our “ummm and ahhh counter’. I thought Nigel did an awesome job, his natural use of humour and his relaxed style was a real winner for me.
Overall a fantastic night, thanks to everyone who was there 😊

In summary – I would like to provide a little food for thought…  it was a bit of a shame to only have 2 speakers on the agenda tonight. Please, please if you are unable to fulfill your speaking slot – please email the club as soon as possible – someone else might want to step in. It’s always good to have a speech up your sleeve – this will allow you to progress through the pathways process a little faster!

Also – if you can not attend – please let the Toastmaster know and find a replacement for your role!

See you all on the 23rd March – better get working on my speech!!
