An evening like none other

A wintry cold and wet July's evening was warmed up by the best Toastmasters Club in Napier. This evening was excitingly packed with three speeches, two educational sessions and of course, table topics. We had a few apologies but the guests in the room made up for it.

Jan, the Toastmaster for the Day gave a warm welcome to everyone. Jan made sure all went well from time-to-time and played the genial host role extremely gracefully. Kudos Jan! Our time keeper - Karen and Grammarian - Peter M did a fabulous job! The word for the day was – 'Emulate', which was used by most of the toastmasters through the evening. Good selection Peter M!
The speakers for the evening were Peter B, Kerry and Campbell. Each to be evaluated by Steve, James and Ashley respectively.

Peter B delivered his speech flawlessly titled – 'I can make you drink poison'. A very thoroughly prepared and well-practised speech was presented with confidence. He also used the word of the day twice in his speech taking up the risk of a new last-minute addition to his matter. He received a very encouraging evaluation by Steve with a positive reinforcement towards his capabilities. Commented through the structure of the speech and gave excellent commendations.

Peter B - The art of selling

Kerry always brings a fresh and inspiring topic with all her speeches. This one was no exception! Her topic was goal setting. Kerry held the attention of the audience all through the speech with her eloquent speech and voice variety. Brilliant delivery Kerry! An animated and keen evaluation was presented by James Kan, with excellent feedback encompassing the objectives being attained. Great job James!

Campbell entered the meeting in his dressing robe and the costume itself helped him to get enough attention. With his speech – 'I don't give a fluff', Campbell spoke about his entry into the reading world and how the book he has been reading has inspired him. He managed to captivate the audience and kept them laughing all through his speech. A very constructive evaluation by Ashley was provided by linking his personal life experiences. Truly epigrammatic Ashley!

Our Table Topics Master was Elizabeth formerly known as Kate. A collection of different questions about life, memories, choices was thrown out to the chosen speakers. Each speaker delivered the impromptu speech and kept the audience thoroughly entertained. Thanks to Elizabeth/Kate for such an interesting selection of topics to talk about. A very well conducted session! The table topic evaluators Craig and Christine gave very good commendations to the speakers and the table topic master!

The Educational sessions were delivered by – Ian and Christine.

Ian shed light on the topic – 'How to introduce a Speaker'. Very good content and extremely entertaining delivery with examples was provided. Ian laid emphasis on minute details which made the session riveting. Christine did a 'DCP Presentation' with the use of props which did bring a better understanding of the concept. Thanks to both for such interesting presentations!

The meeting concluded with the Business Session by Craig - invitation to the Awards Dinner on 30th July 2018 at Shani's and Investiture of the new officers were on the agenda. To wrap up, the reports from the timekeeper, grammarian and general evaluator were given followed by the awards presentation by the Toastmaster.

Congratulations to the Toastmaster for the Day, the table topics master, evaluators, speakers, timer and grammarian for great team work and organising a well-co-ordinated action-packed evening! And of course, all the members present, it wouldn't be fun at all without each one of you. Special thanks to the Sergeant-at-arms – Graeme, who never fails to give us the much-needed dose of a choc bici!

The awards for the night:
Best speaker: Peter B
