Steve then handed the meeting to the Humorous Chair Sarah L.
Sarah conducted a very successful humorous contest.
Contest entrants were:
- Amy with 'Spectacular Spectacles'
- Hannah with 'Murphy’s Law'
- Peter with Your Vote Counts
- Netta with 'Today was a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Bad Day'
Sarah handed the meeting back to Steve and we proceeded with the regular meeting.
Hannah introduced herself and her role as General Evaluator
Graeme introduced his word of the night - 'Jolly'; meaning full of good humour.
Time keepers for the meeting were Paul and Chris. Chris introduced the role for the benefit of the guests.
First speaker was introduced by Craig who gave us some personal details about the speaker James who then delivered his ice breaker (1st speech) entitled “It owes you nothing”. James completed the saying with “the world owes you nothing - it was here first”. James told us about several different positions that he has held and finished with the thought “For someone to invest in you - you must first invest in yourself.”
Well done James for starting on your Toastmasters speaking career.
Craig provided James with a useful evaluation giving him some pointers on how he could improve the presentation.
As the Contest had run overtime Steve shortened the Supper time and the educational was rescheduled to a later meeting.
After the break Paul introduced the Table Topics session. He had a number of topics on slips of paper for the participants to choose from.
