What a wonderful meeting we had again last night! Danny, our excellent Toastmaster of the evening, themed the meeting 'hats' and we came along wearing a hat depicting our working days. Great to see an original assortment of headwear, although some of you took a while to recognise when you stepped in the door! Danny led the meeting with flair and efficiency, well done Danny.
It was great to have 3 guests along last night, Bryce, Hannes and Connie. Look forward to seeing you all again soon. Congratulations to Sarah L for becoming a member last night, wonderful to have you on board Sarah. The District thanks you as well as we approach the end of our TM year and final dates for meeting our goals.
David was our General Evaluator for the evening and did a good job. Remember to deliver feedback on all the speech evaluators though David! It was a very busy evening for David, with five speeches and TT to evaluate, the General Evaluator's role is typically a challenging one and he did very well! David was assisted by Timekeeper Peter who did an excellent job, and Sarah as Grammarian who encouraged everyone to 'galvanize' themselves and others, the grammarian's word which was well utilised in the evening.
The Table Topics session was presented by Emily, and what a wonderful session it was. Emily had read a book recently titled '101 things NOT to do before you die', and the topics were based on this theme. Some fun creative responses and altogether an extremely well run session with participants all taking up the challenge with seeming ease. Great use of humour in many of the speeches made for a very entertaining session. The Table Topics session was very well evaluated by Graeme and Sheryl-in-her-cute-fluffy-animal-hat which I felt took out the prize for 'hat of the night'.
The first formal speaker of the evening was our new member Joost with his Icebreaker 'Transitions', well done Joost! From Belgium, he recounted his struggles and adventures of adjusting to life in his new country NZ. A passionate Icebreaker, and we are thrilled to have you in Napier Toastmasters so we're glad you're staying in Kiwiland Joost.
Simon was our next speaker with a rehearsal of his wedding speech to be delivered this Saturday! Great job Simon, this was only his second TM speech, we know you will do a wonderful speech on Saturday and we wish you all the best. After the meeting Simon was keen to discuss his next meeting role, that was very impressive considering I thought he would be on honeymoon - what commitment!! Feel free to bring your wife along to the next meeting Simon!
Ian was next to present an intriguing speech, 'It's as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4'. An informative mathematical educational that had us all thinking a lot about Kenken, well done Ian. We will be tackling the puzzles this week!
Jan was our fourth speaker, with an emotional inspiring speech titled, 'Survival'. A tribute to her father who spent a number of years in the horror of solitary confinement in an Italian POW camp, this was a moving and powerful speech. At the other end of the spectrum, Lucy then followed with a humorous speech, 'Counting Sheep' - convincing us all that sheep are indeed intelligent. Well researched Lucy, and an entertaining and original speech. What variety of speeches we were treated to last night!
The five speech evaluators did a great job last night: Craig, Paul, Steve, Christine and Chris respectively. Speakers remember to make the effort to apply your evaluator's recommendations to your next speech and be amazed at your growth.
The awards for the evening were:
Best Table Topics: Paul McPherson
Best Speaker: Jan Alve
Best Evaluator: Craig Robinson
Best Contribution of the Night: Craig Robinson for his consistent help and support, and stepping up to the role of President as of 1st July.
Well everyone, this is my final VP Education report for a while. Your new VP Education Sheryl takes over as of next meeting, and I know that she will do a brilliant job! I leave the role in excellent hands.

Well done Sarah, this is an excellent brief "encapsulation" of the evening's events, as usual presented in a chatty and informative style.
