There are always some very entertaining quotes that come up at our TM meetings, and I thought that the subject heading was the quote of the night! Thanks David Grant!
Emily chaired an entertaining and informative meeting last night, and what a great job she did. Great to see a guest along, Jan. It was great having you attend Jan, look forward to seeing you again!
Steve gave an extremely comprehensive General Evaluation as we have come to expect. Evaluators take note - there were some excellent recommendations there I felt. Adrienne and Colin did a great job as Steve's support crew in the roles of timekeeper and grammarian respectively.
Ian conducted an informative and, at times, lighthearted Table Topics session on the upcoming elections. With politics normally being a 'taboo' subject in Toastmasters, I thought this TT session was excellent as Ian took his own original angle on the topic and all respondents were able to talk with confidence - great work Ian. With Table Topics, remember that if you are able to incorporate your own experience then this is often a winning formula. The Table Topics session was evaluated really well by Danny (with Sarah in supporting role!).
We were treated to three wonderful speeches last night and what an assortment of topics! Ching-Hui led us on a 'Dramatic Journey' about her travels to Brazil - thankfully with a pleasant outcome! (If you ever get stuck in an unfortunate situation at an airport then just give Ching-Hui a ring). David presented an informative talk on the Referendum 2011. With only 7% of the country apparently understanding the alternative options to MMP this was a timely talk for us all, and thanks David for posting the referendum links on this website, a great resource indeed. Craig delighted us with an informative talk on the Webb Ellis Trophy although I felt that if he'd brought the actual trophy along then this would have added impact!! (A lot!!)
The three speeches were evaluated very capably by Chris, Christine and Sheryl. I really liked the way the evaluators, when giving recommendations, stated
-which aspect of the speech they felt could be improved
-why it could be improved
-their recommendations for how it could be improved in the next speech
This is a great formula for recommendations, one that we can all use (not just in TM but in life! I use it daily in dentistry!!).
Colin led a full and interesting Business Session.
The Best Of awards for the night went to:
Best Speaker: Craig Robinson
Best Evaluator: Sheryl Mackie
Best TT: Sarah Hall
Best Contribution of the Night: Ian Wright
See you on the 28 November. Only 2 TM meetings to go this year (and less than 6 weeks till Christmas) so make sure you come along!
Cheers

VPEd Napier TM
Another excellent summmary of the meeting by Sarah (and she underscores herself on her Table Topics Evaluation ability!)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments about the Evaluations, this is no doubt a real strengtrh of Napier Toastmasters and cannot help but assist all our members (and prospective members!) to be better more confident speakers.
Everyone keep up the great work.
