Hi there fellow Toastmasters!
Great to see a good turnout last night, with 3 guests along too. Welcome back to Jan, and we also had Morrison and Robert attending the lively meeting.
Colin gave a very thorough General Evaluation, always a challenging role for the night. He was ably supported by Timekeeper Craig, and Grammarian Danny who encouraged us all to use Maori language wherever possible - a novel idea Danny!
Emily ran a creative and fun Table Topics session getting the members to use quotes from Winston Churchill and explain what the quotes meant to them. The Table Topics session was evaluated to a high standard by Peter and Chris.
We were treated to four excellent speeches last night. It was worth attending the meeting just to hear these four speakers present! Christine recounted with great enthusiasm her train journey from Auckland to Wgtn and return on the Overlander and inspired us to give this a go too. Millie continued to make her way through the storytelling manual with a dramatic depiction of 'The Story of the Kursk'. This was gripping - we could have heard a pin drop during the speech! Paul presented an informative talk about 'Happiness' and reflections on a book he has read recently, a very creative topic I felt. Ian was the man with the props last night, as he told us about his goals and completing the Round Taupo Cycle Race last weekend - we knew you could do it Ian!!
The four evaluators - Ching-Hui, Steve, Graeme and David - did a very thorough job. I always find it so interesting what other evaluators highlight as their recommendations and commendations for a speaker, we can learn so much from one anothers evaluations.
Best Table Topics: Chess Severyn-Parrish
Best Speaker: Millie Booth
Best Evaluator: Graeme Valentine
Best Contribution of the Night: Morrison-the-guest!
Colin led a short and informative business session and I trust a great night was had by all!
Look forward to seeing everyone at the final Napier TM meeting for the year in a fortnight. Don't forget to come in Christmas theme!!
