Club Meeting August 22

Great to see so many of you along to our meeting last night, what a fun meeting it was. Graeme chaired the meeting with his usual enthusiasm and efficiency, and it was the first time I have seen the TM open the meeting only to be interrupted by a loud rendition of 'Happy Birthday To You!' Hope you had a great day Graeme!

Danny led a challenging but creative TT session about international language, with mostly guests and new members taking part, well done to you all! Many an experienced Toastmaster was heard to give a sigh of relief that they weren't asked the questions, so extra credit should be given to the newbies I believe! The TT were very ably evaluated by this meeting's dynamic duo of Ching-Hui and Paul who provided some very useful feedback.

We were treated to 2 great Educational Sessions by Craig and Adrienne. I certainly got a lot out of them both, they were well organised, clearly constructed and had great moments of entertainment, thanks to Craig and Adrienne to the effort they put into bringing those presentations to the club.

We were also treated to four diverse and lively speeches! David's presentation about accountancy being a great topic for reality tv (!), Sheryl talking about the language of Generation Z (with some lovely examples of what her children say!), Peter's fun speech about fly fishing with excellent props, and Millie's dramatic interpretation that she presented with her usual enthusiasm and flair! I felt the speeches were particularly entertaining and creative last night, so well done to all four of you.

I enjoyed listening to the well constructed and helpful evaluations by Steve, Chris and Christine (and this other random chick Sarah). Great evaluations are truly the lifeblood of the Toastmasters programme and I feel very privileged to be in a club that consistently has such encouraging and supportive evaluations, I have learnt so much over the years from some excellent evaluators!

Ian gave an excellent and thorough General Evaluation as we have come to expect from Ian! A particularly challenging role last night I felt, with TT Evaluations, 4 speech evaluations and 2 Educational Sessions not to mention the TM role to evaluate, I felt Ian accomplished the role with aplomb! He was ably assited by our lovely Irish member Bridget (occasionally mistaken for being Scottish!) doing the timekeeping.

Awards for the night:
Best Speaker: David Grant
Best TT: Bridget Dunn
Best Contribution for the Night: Adrienne Dench
Best Evaluator: Sarah Hall
